Ajan spruce, Picea jezoensis, Outdoor-Bonsai
The spruce belongs to the evergreen trees. The Ajan spruce is very popular with bonsai collectors.
Location:
It prefers to be in the open air, in a bright to partly shady spot. On hot summer days, it is better to place it in a partly shady to shady location. Heat is not so well tolerated. In early spring, new shoots should be protected from late frost.
Winter storage:
This Picea is hardy. The Bonsai is planted in a pot but has only limited hardiness. If it is left outdoors in winter, it requires sun, wind and root protection. This is done by lowering the root either with its dish, or without its dish, into the earth, and covering it with leaves and branches. As soon as the temperatures are reliably frost free, the winter protection must be removed, to prevent mould from forming underneath. If the weather remains very dry for a long period, it should be watered on frost-free days. Please note: the dish could potentially be damaged by heavy frost.
