Chinese dwarf lilac, 'Syringa meyeri', Outdoor-Bonsai
The Chinese lilac is a deciduous tree. Its loose panicles with very fragrant blossoms make this a very popular bonsai.
Location:
It is an outdoor tree. It should be placed in a spot that is sunny or partly shady. In summer, the bonsai should be protected from the very hot mid-day sun.
Winter storage:
If it is left outdoors in winter, it requires sun, wind and root protection. This is done by lowering the root either with its dish, or without its dish, into the earth, and covering it with leaves and branches. As soon as the temperatures are reliably frost free, the winter protection must be removed, to prevent mould from forming underneath. If the weather remains very dry for a long period, it should be watered on frost-free days.
